I was leaving the gym the other day and told my friend to have a nice day as I passed her on my way out of the locker room.
Her response wasn’t the typical, “You too.”
No, her response was “Thanks. I’m gonna!”
“I’m gonna!”
That was the response I got. And I liked that response! It stuck with me all day. The “I’m gonna!” mentality, confessing “I’m gonna!” have a good day before the day has gotten underway. Nancy had no idea what the day held. Actually, we did know the day held rain in the forecast, as did the whole week, as we had already discussed that in our few minutes together. But she still chose to say “I’m gonna!”
What a great attitude! In fact, Nancy’s response put a skip in my step as I walked out to my car. Her response encouraged me. Her “I’m gonna!” response inspired and challenged me. She had already made the decision that the day was going to be a good day. She had determined in her mind that such would be the case.
And I like that. I want to be like that.
The power of positive thinking and positive confession sure goes a long way. Now I have no idea how Nancy’s day truly turned out. But my guess would be it was a great day, because even if things didn’t go the best, she has the sort of thinking and determination that wouldn’t let a circumstance get her down. Her “I’m gonna!”response had already determined it was going to be a good day. And it shows she’s not the sort of person that views the cup as half empty. There’s no victim, woe is me, life sucks attitude in Nancy.
There’s a lot to be said about that “I’m gonna!” response.
Determining ahead of time.
Focusing on the positive, not the negative.
Confessing life, not death.
What a great way to walk thru life. Take it a step farther as a Christian and confess the Word of God over your life. Remind yourself of His promises for you. Then move on with a good, even a great, day!
I know “I’m gonna!”
