A ministry of the Life Counseling Center

Life Counseling Center has become a regional leader on the East Coast in the treatment of sexual addiction and related issues. Our focus is to offer a professional Clinical/Christian approach to counseling both to the sexual addict as well as to those affected by the disorder. LCC now offers needed and immediate help in the form of an IOP (Intensive Out Patient) program. Our IOP counseling focus on the underlying emotional and spiritual issues that greatly contribute to sexual addiction. A professional staff therapist trained and experienced in sexual addiction education will facilitate the IOP.
Unlike drug or alcohol treatment, the goal of sexual addiction treatment is not merely just for lifelong
abstinence, but more importantly for the termination of compulsive, unhealthy sexual behavior linked
to possible traumas suffered from childhood. If not treated properly from a solid clinical/Christian approach, the addiction has the potential to have emotionally, relationally and spiritually devastating results!
Since it is very difficult for a sex addict to distinguish between healthy and unhealthy sex, the therapist within the IOP setting (may) encourage abstinence from any sexual behavior during the first phase of treatment. Many programs suggest a 60- to 90-day period of self-imposed abstinence.
This enables the client, along with the treating therapist, to understand more clearly the emotional
cues and circumstances that trigger sexual thought and compulsive sexual behavior. The Lord's plan for anyone struggling with sexual addiction is "freedom" from the triggers that have held them captive for years in shame, guilt and condemnation…none of which are from God!. Counseling therapy usually consists of 18-20 hours of intense work over the course of three days.

What is the... Underground

The focus of the (The Underground) workshop is not just about strategies to stop acting out behaviors but on understanding the individual wounds and thought patterns that drive them. We seek to help men grow emotionally and spiritually. It is only in a relationship with Christ that any of us can truly and fully heal!
The workshop format is flexible, depending on the needs of the group (which can range from 12 to 18 men). It also includes a mixture of lectures, group discussions, clinical as well as biblical information, therapist/clients interaction and individual reflection time and assignments (see our FAQ's for more information). Participants may break into two groups, with each group led by a trained facilitator. Robb Horner, MA is the primary workshop presenter. Anthony
Trader, MSW also participates in workshop sessions and as a group leader.
At the The Underground Workshop, sponsored by Life Counseling Center, you will learn about the spiritual, emotional, and physical basis for addiction. You will be helped to understand the inter-relationship between sexual sin, bondage, and addiction. You will learn all of this in the context of a supportive clinical/Christian environment, surrounded by men who understand your struggle, because they have been there themselves!
Most importantly, you will leave with not only a new resolve and hope, but also a practical plan for recovery!

FACTS:

When: March 18th thru the 20th, 2010

Where specifically is the workshop held?

The workshop is held in Easton, MD at either a retreat center or local hotel offering conference room facilities. If you're flying, the destination is the Baltimore Washington International airport (code BWI).

What is the cost of the workshop and what does it include?

The affordable fee covers all lodging and meals for the duration of the workshop except for a Friday evening meal that all will attend at a quality local restaurant. Also, the fee does not reflect an increase iin price should the workshop have to be held in a hotel.

How long is the workshop?
The workshop starts on Thursday morning at 8:45 AM and ends on Saturday afternoon at 5:00 PM.

I can't afford the workshop fee. Is there any way I can still
come?

We don't want financial issues to keep people from getting the help they need, and we do our best to work with a participant's situation. Half of the workshop fee is due up-front and the remainder
can be put on a no-interest payment plan spread over a 2 to 4 month period.

Is the cost covered by insurance?
Life Counseling Center does not bill insurance. Each participant is responsible for paying the workshop fee. Insurance companies usually cite two reasons for not covering the cost of the workshop: It
doesn't take place in a hospital setting, and we don't assign a specific diagnosis to participants.

What is the transfer or cancellation policy?
The deposit is non-refundable in the event you cancel your registration. You may transfer to the next available workshop without penalty provided you notify us at least two weeks before the start
of your originally scheduled workshop. If you transfer within two weeks of the start date, you'll incur a transfer penalty. No refund is given if you fail to notify us that you won't be attending, if you withdraw from the workshop early, if you're asked to leave a workshop, or if you complete the workshop.

How will I get from the airport to the conference site?
LCC does not offer shuttle service from the BWI airport at this time. Consequently, you will need to rent a car to arrive in Easton, MD. It is about a 50-minute drive.

Do I have to be referred by a therapist?
In general, anyone who seeks recovery from his or her sexual addiction or co-addiction may attend a Healing Workshop. You don't have to be referred by a therapist. A participant, though, must be free from suicidal impulses, psychosis, and active alcohol and drug addiction. You must be able to self-regulate and maintain psychological stability while doing intensive work. If you have doubts about whether the workshop is an appropriate setting for you, please discuss your situation with Robb Horner, MA, director of LCC's The Underground workshops.

What is the dress code?
The dress code for the weekend is definitely casual - jeans, jogging suits, shorts, etc. Because of the nature of the workshop, we pay special attention to requiring dress that's appropriate
for our sensitive setting. So again, please dress casual but appropriate.

Can I use my cell phone?
In order to keep your focus on your healing process, we strongly discourage phone calls. If you call home, it's easy to get sidetracked into an upsetting conversation. Alert loved ones that
you've arrived safely and remind them you're not available except in a genuine emergency. We're glad to keep your cell phone to help you avoid contacting someone you shouldn't.
Although we discourage it, some people choose to check their work voicemail once a day. Remember, it's to your advantage to eliminate distractions during the workshop.

Workshop Fee?
The Underground Workshop is now $995.00 (was $1,200.00) Workshop prices are subject to change without notice. Deposit: $400.00 non-refundable (was $500.00)
The deposit may be transferred to the next workshop if necessary.
A $100 change fee may be charged if a transfer is requested within two weeks of the originally scheduled workshop.
Included: All lodging and meals (except optional ones before or after a workshop and the Friday evening meal)
Payment Methods: Check, check card or credit card (Visa or MasterCard)
Payment Plans: Half the total workshop fee is due before the first day of the workshop. A no-interest payment plan can be arranged for the balance (usually 2-4 monthly payments)
