Frequently-Asked Questions Regarding 5% CHA GivingThe statement on the credential application concerning giving to the CHA reads: “I agree to give 5% of my total income (whether from ministry or other source) to the credential holder’s account of Elim Fellowship.” Recognizing the responsibility to give to the CHA is birthed in a desire to support Elim Fellowship in its vision and purpose. We wish to answer some questions often asked concerning the 5%: 1. What is meant by “my total income”?A person holding credentials is expected to give 5% of his or her personal income from both ministry and non-ministry earnings. 2. Does the 5% apply to my spouse’s income?Only if your spouse holds credentials with Elim Fellowship. 3. What should I do if I have no income?Giving from your spouse’s income or other financial resources would be a personal conscience decision. 4. Is the 5% considered ½ of the tithe?Some people give a full tithe to Elim Fellowship from the principle of “Tithing Up.” Some divide their tithe and give 5% to Elim Fellowship. 5. Is the 5% from Net Income or Gross Income?It is a personal conscience decision. 6. Are there any exceptions that will allow me to waive my commitment to the CHA?In the case of crisis, difficulty or other unforeseen situations, there may be a temporary waiving of your commitment to the 5% - however, this should be discussed with your Area Representative and Regional Director and on-going communication should take place in order to maintain integrity concerning your relationship as a credential holder. 7. How is the Credential Holder’s account income used?Your 5% CHA payment is the primary source for funding the various ministries of Elim Fellowship. |
